A.J. Abbott, son of Samuel a farmer living in Ohio, was born August 14, 1842 in Miami, Ohio near West Milton. The family moved to West Branch,Iowa in 1852.
Graduate of Iowa State University 1864.
Married Ruth Barrington 1865 in West Branch, Iowa.
1st child - George born April 6, 1867. 2nd child - Alice Edna 1869-1948.
Moved to Glenwood Iowa, principal of schools.
3rd child - Edmund Clarence born August 8, 1871 - 1939.
Studied law in office of chief Justice James Day and S.R. Peters.
4th child - Raymond Barrington born Dec 25, 1873 - 1969.
Principal of schools there. Then moved to a farm in Barclay, Kansas and from there to Sterling, Kansas where he began practicing law. Where he became City Superintendant.
5th child - Florence Evelyn, 1877 - 1969.
Became City Attorney which made it necessary to move to county seat, Lyons, Kansas. 6th child - Albert Justin born January 13, 1883.
Moved to Garden City, Kansas to practice law. 7th child - Frances Josephine 1889 - 1968.
When the 27th (state) Judicial District was created he was appointed Judge by Governor Martin to fill out an unexpired term, then was elected and served two terms after this. (believe he tried Wyatt Earp cases in Dodge City)
Moved to Alvin, Texas then to Trinidad, Colorado in 1896. Moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico 1901, where he practiced law with his son Clarence (Costillo Land Case).
Ruth Barrington died November 11, 1903.
Was appointed attorney for the Pueblo Indians and served several years.
Married Ida Patton.
Spent 10 years (1909-1919) at Ritole de los Frijoles (now Bandolier Nat'l Monument) then built a house in Santa Fe where he died in 1929.
Buried in Fairview Cemetary, 1134 Cerillos Road, Santa Fe, NM.
